TET Exam stands for Teacher Eligibility Test. It is the mandatory exam for all those who want to make a career in teaching both in government and private schools. Both the central and state governments conduct TET. In the central government, it is known as CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test), and in the state, it is known as the state name TET. Some of the popular TET exams in India are CTET, UPTET, WBTET, HTET, REET, PTET, HPTET, and ATET etc. 

  1. These exams aim to establish a standard benchmark for the recruitment of junior and mid-senior level teachers. 
  2. Improve the performance of students and educational institutions.
  3. Increase the communication between the central and state government to enhance the education standard in India. 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the primarily responsible authority for the TET exams and also acts as the guiding force to various government bodies while conducting the exam. All three types of specialist teachers, i.e., PRTs (I-V class), TGTs (VI-X class), and PGTs (XII and XII class), are recruited through this exam. 

This exam also has the same popularity as the other government exams of India, and today in this article, we will discuss the various perspectives of the TET exam.

Exam pattern for TET exams

The TET exam has 2 papers conducted on the same day. Both paper 1 and paper 2 have 150 MCQ questions. The separate time limit for both papers is 2 hours 30 minutes. Candidates are awarded 1 mark for each correct, and there is no negative marking for any paper.

The Ministry of Education (formerly known as MHRD) has set up some norms for the qualifying marks for the TET exam, which is given below:

Eligibility for TET exam

Strange but true, The eligibility criteria for TET paper 1 and paper 2 are different. Individual eligibility requirements for both pacers are mentioned below:

Paper 1

  1. The candidates should be 12th qualified with a minimum of 50% marks and appeared in the 2-year diploma in elementary education or
  2. The candidates should be higher secondary qualified with a minimum of 50% marks and have completed or appeared in the Bachelor of elementary education final year. 
  3. Candidates who have completed graduation and passed or appear in the final year of a 2-year diploma in elementary education can apply. 

Paper 2

  1. Candidates who have completed graduation and passed or appear in the final year of a 2-year diploma in elementary education or
  2. Candidates must graduate with at least 50% marks and have passed or appearing in the first year of B.ed. 
  3. Candidates who have cleared the higher secondary education with at least 50% marks and have completed or appearing in the final year of B.EI.Ed. or 
  4. Candidates who have completed or are in the final year of a 4-year integrated program of B.A.B.ed., B.Sc.B.ed. Or any equivalent course. 
  5. Candidates who have completed graduation with at least 50% and appearing in the first year of B.ed. can apply.  

Posts and salary after TET 

Both the posts and salaries vary as per the central or state schools. After clearing the CTET, you can apply to any central government school, and you will be hired if there will be a vacancy. Similarly, if you qualify for any state TET, you can apply for any government school in the state. Central schools like KVS, NVS Army teachers, ERDO, etc., prefer only CTET qualified candidates, whereas state schools can hire both CTET and state TET qualified candidates. 

The salary for any primary teacher in the state government school is anywhere around 35,000 to 37,000 per month, and for the trained graduate teacher, it is 40,000 to 45,000 per month. 

Similarly, the salary of CTET qualified candidates who get postings in any central government schools can easily expect a salary of 40,000 for primary teachers, 45,000 for trained teachers, and 55,000 for PGT teachers. 

One thing to be kept in mind is that these salaries are the gross monthly salaries, and there are few deductions. Still, you have a sufficient amount of money in your hand.

Question- Who conducts the Teacher Eligibility Test?

Answer –  CBSE is the regulating authority for all the TET exams, be it central or state, but the conducting authorities for state TET are different. In most states, it is the education ministry that has the responsibility.

Answer – Anyone who is a citizen of India and is a graduate with a major in education can apply for the TET exam. 

Question- What is the eligibility for the TET Exam?

Answer – Higher secondary with minimum 50% marks and graduate with B.ed. is the minimum eligibility for both CTET and State TET.

Question- How Many attempts do you get to clear the TET?

Answer – There is no boundation of how many times you can give the TET exam; hence you can give as many attempts as you want. 

Question- Does anyone can apply in TET?

Answer – Yes, anyone with the required educational qualification and between 18 to 35 years of age can apply for this examination.
